As Trinity College of the Bible and Trinity Theological Seminary sought to expand its library resources, it became clear that the capabilities of the then existing Trinity Electronic Library (TEL) were limited. A new library structure with more flexible features was needed.
In consultation with Trinity’s Information Specialist, the Dean of Innovative Learning designed a new Moodle-based eLibrary built upon the foundational concept of “classrooms as library stacks that are uniform in design,user-friendly, and capable of being expanded and upgraded.” Thus TEL version 2 (TEL2) was born.
In academia, when significant structural changes are made to a brick and mortar library, the new building or library wing is often named after a person of significance in the life of the institution. Since the TEL2 eLibrary was an entirely new structural concept for Trinity’s library, the faculty voted on 26 February 2007 to rename TEL2 the Harold F. Hunter Theological Library (HTL) to honor the president for his leadership and support of the faculty and their efforts in building a stronger academic curriculum. The renaming of the library was announced to Dr. Hunter and the Trinity community during a presentation ceremony led by the faculty on 09 May 2007. Primary construction of the eLibrary then continued throughout 2007.
